Thriving in Winter
We recently received 10 inches of snow and wind in Northwest Kansas that resulted in blizzard conditions.
Native bison have evolved and adapted to withstand the harshest of extreme weather on prairie and not only survive but thrive here.
Their thick coats of fur contain a wooly underlayer with coarse guard hairs that protect them from the elements. They minimize nutritional needs under cold stress by slowing their metabolism to conserve energy.
When enjoying a change in temperature, they can be found living life to the fullest.
